In the footsteps of miners.
The first metal used by man, copper was used to make jewellery and tools during the Copper Age. It continued to be mined throughout the ages until the advent of electricity in the 20th century. It shaped the landscape until the early 1960s. To find out more, there is an exhibition at the Forannes bread oven in the village and educational panels on the site. The walk starts from the car park in the direction of the chapel of Ste-Marie-Madeleine to join the balcony path known as ‘Le grand canal’. Follow the path through the alpine pastures past the Beauregard hut and then the Labounnais hut. Go straight ahead at the junction with the track leading to the observatory and finally enter the world of mines. For the return journey, take the GR58, which runs through the undergrowth alongside the Aigue Blanche.
