Throughout its history, the mine has welcomed several successive waves of immigrant workers. The first came from Italy in 1850. It was the construction of the railway line that led many Piedmontese to settle in Cadolive and the surrounding area. Indeed, hired in Nice, these workers followed the construction of the line to the Castellane well, where it stopped. Thus, many of them found themselves working in the mines or at the Lafarge cement factory. In Cadolive, most of the Italian families settled in the Chantecoucou district, which housed a railway station and a coal sorting site where many women also worked.
