Departure from Tende (815 m) to the charming hamlet of Casterino (1550 m) in the heart of nature. Option: continue to Col de Tende via the Haute Route du Sel or return to Tende via the departmental road.
This tour can be done on a classic mountain bike (pro level) or on an electrically-assisted mountain bike. It can also be used as a starting point for the Haute Route du Sel. The complete Haute Route du Sel loop (Tende - La Brigue) is 120 km long.
From the center of Tende, take rue de France, join place du Ponte and cross the old village of Tende via the main alley. Pass the Collegiate Church and the Penitents chapels, then follow the street to the first bend in the Chemin des Speggi.
Follow the asphalt road and then the track towards Castérino. At the intersection marked by marker 344, head in the direction of the gite.
The track climbs to the Ourne drop (point 2039, marker 356). Continue towards Mont Chajol, still on the main trail.
As you approach the Peïrefique drop (point 2026, marker 369), watch out: just after the drop, a track goes off to the left. Take the track that runs alongside a fortified structure, not the dirt track that descends towards Castérino.
Continue downhill on this track until you reach the parking area for hiking trails. Continue straight ahead to reach the hamlet.
