A lovely, refreshing route, linking mountain passes and taking you along the most charming rivers in the department.
The first part is spectacular, on the most beautiful road in the Ubaye Valley, climbing up from Le Bachelard via the Col de la Cayolle.
At Saint-Martin-d'Entraunes, turn right! Head for the Col des Champs, with its sumptuous panoramic views. At the bottom of the pass: Colmars-les-Alpes, a medieval town.
Continue along the Verdon towards Barrême and then Chaudon.
Cross Digne-les-Bains and follow the Bléone to the Bès. The gorges of this river are very famous, particularly the Clues de Barles, an important geological site.
Turn off from the Bès towards the Grave torrent and the village of Auzet.
At Selonnet, turn right towards Saint-Jean-de-Montclar before reaching Lake Serre-Ponçon and heading up the Ubaye to Barcelonnette.
