The Plateau des Thures is an accessible snowshoe hike for lovers of wide-open spaces! The 600-meter elevation gain is quickly rewarded once you reach the wide, snow-covered plateau offering views of the peaks of the Magi and Mont Thabor.
From the Roubion parking lot, join the slopes above the hamlet, then the Champ-Bellet ski lift, from which starts snowshoe trail no. 2, "La combe St Martin". Follow it until you reach the Clarée state forest (marked by a wooden sign). There's a sign pointing to Les Thures.
From the entrance to the state forest, the route follows the torrent up its right bank. You then pass a forest hut, and from there climb up several switchbacks. You pass a coiffed damsel (also known as a fairy chimney), and continue uphill until you reach the vast Thures plateau.
Once you've reached the plateau, follow the trail to the left to reach the Les Thures pastoral hut. The trail continues across the plateau until you reach Col des Thures (2194m). The lake may not be visible at this time of year, but the imposing Rois Mages of the Vallée Etroite can be seen in front of you, with Mont Thabor in the distance.
