From the starting point at Le Chazelet, head down towards the village along the parking lot. At the first junction, don't go up into the village, but take a right-hand hairpin turn towards the foot of the ski lifts. At the second junction, stay on the slope (do not descend towards the torrent).
Continue along the wide track and at the next junction, turn right towards the three hamlets of Les Rivets. Cross them and reach the Tuf cross (1901m). At the cross, turn right towards the Orliers alpine chalet. Continue through La Chabanerie, before reaching the Refuge du Pic du Mas de la Grave.
The return trip follows the same route in order to avoid trails that are more exposed to avalanche risk.
Free access, in an uncertain natural environment: the itinerary is indicated by dark purple signs at the start of the route to the refuge. It is unsecured. You'll be totally autonomous and on your own responsibility. Make sure you set off equipped with a avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe, and a good knowledge of the weather, snow conditions and avalanche risk.
