A great warm-up.
With its low altitude difference - 1,333m - and its location, where the weather conditions are often ideal, the Col Saint-Jean is the perfect route for a great cycle ride.
The Col Saint-Jean is the gateway to the Ubaye valley.
After the 20km downhill road from Barcelonnette to Le Lauzet, a gentle 13km slope rarely exceeding 5-6% leads to the top of the pass.
The climb is generally easy, with no major difficulties, and there are plenty of opportunities to admire the views over Lac de Serre-Ponçon as far as the final lookout point. You can gaze out over the emerald expanse as the metres go by.
Once over the pass, you can extend your enjoyment with a loop around the Seyne area or try a link-up with the ascent of the Col de Pontis.
