Hike from waterfall to chapel, on the threshold of the Haute Vallée de la Clarée, and enjoy magnificent views over the various hamlets of Névache.
Route n°3 of the Névache Nordic area.
This itinerary takes you downhill to the Clarée river and the hydroelectric power station. Once you've reached this building, turn slightly right to pass through the rocks between the trees (don't cross the footbridge over the Clarée, which leads to an avalanche-prone and icy area).
The path rises quickly through the rocks; you'll come to a first flat spot and then climb again to a second flat spot.
From here, look to your left (west) for the marker that rises to cross the last rocky bar. You reach the end of the itinerary with a superb view of the village and valley. A black and yellow sign "fin de domaine nordique" (end of Nordic ski area) marks the point where you need to turn around and head back the same way.
The snowshoe itinerary crosses the Haute-Vallée itinerary, so be on the lookout for other snowshoers (especially skiers), who can arrive at any moment.
Respect the signs and take care not to walk on the ski runs (unless the signs indicate that you can), for reasons of safety and respect for the grooming work.
In the event of an accident, call 112, giving details of the route you are on and, if possible, your location, so that the first-aid team can come to your aid.
Snowshoe trekking requires a minimum of skill and equipment, even on routes marked by the piste service. Similarly, weather conditions can change rapidly in the mountains. Check with the piste service before setting off.
If you're a beginner, it's advisable to ask a professional to accompany you.
