Come and encounter sites and landscapes that trace the long history of the Earth and (re)discover its evolution through the rich geological heritage of this vast natural space and guaranteed rejuvenation at the Spa Thermal de Haute Provence.
Day 1 Program: welcome between 14pm and 17pm at the Digne-Les-Bains tourist office. From 16pm check-in to a room in a 3-star hotel. From 19:00pm full dinner, meals based on local products and traditional recipes from the region, warm and friendly atmosphere, culinary experience guaranteed!
Day 2 Program: After breakfast at the hotel and pick-up of the picnic, meet at 9:30 am with a geologist in the parking lot of the Digne-les-Bains promenade museum, guided tour of the park with its paths, gardens and contemporary works of art. Guided tour of the Maison des Remparts and its exhibition rooms retracing the tumultuous local geological history. At 11:30 am guided tour of the famous ammonite slab. This site is one of the emblematic sites of the UNESCO Geopark of Haute-Provence, a Jurassic seabed that concentrates more than 1500 fossils.
At 12 noon, travel by vehicle to the heights of Digne-les-Bains, in the small hilltop village of Courbons, for a picnic and geological reading of the landscapes.
At 14 p.m. hike (free) of Vieil Esclangon (20 min from Digne towards Barles) 2h30 (round trip) – 5km – 350 m elevation gain. Discovery of the Panorama du Vélodrome, a surprising landscape structured by the meeting of marine deposits and the uplift of the Alps about twenty million years ago. At the entrance to the Clue de Peroué, you will reach the abandoned hamlet of Vieil Esclangon at the foot of the Blayeul Mountain, after passing in front of the Refuge d'Art du Vieil Esclangon you will continue to the Collet viewpoint which offers an exceptional panorama of the velodrome on the right bank of the Bès. Return by the same route. 17 p.m. End of the day – Return to the hotel for dinner, free evening and overnight stay.
Day 3 Program: After breakfast at the hotel, and picking up the picnic, check out of the rooms by 11am. Free hike to the Saint-Pancrace chapel. 2h30 (round trip) 6 km 250 m of positive elevation gain. Starting from the parking lot of the Thermes de Digne-les-Bains. The path leading to the chapel is decorated with explanatory panels: butterflies, the castle of Queen Jeanne, the Ophelia drilling, the black earth, the art refuge of the Bains Thermaux, aromatic plants, the oratory, the vultures, the Saint-Pancrace chapel. At the top you will have a magnificent view from the small chapel. Picnic on the heights and return by the same path. From 14pm to 18pm VIP access to the aquatic area of the Spa Thermal de Haute-Provence, indoor and outdoor pools, hammam, sauna (closed on Tuesdays).
18 p.m. End of stay.
