The Clarée valley offers an exceptional environment for winter hiking over several days. This snowshoe trek immerses you in unspoilt nature, abundant winter fauna and panoramas you'll remember for a long time. In the evenings, we are welcomed in comfortable refuges, full of charm and renowned for the quality of their catering.
Program

D1: Monday - Clarée Valley and forest climb
Departure from Névache, up the valley between forest, snow-covered meadows and the banks of the Clarée. The day ends with an ascent to the Ricou refuge at the edge of the forest, high above the valley.
4h walk, altitude difference +560 and -50m, 8 kms.
Overnight at the Ricou refuge. Meals included: dinner.

D2: Tuesday - Haute Clarée and Col des Rochilles
We cross the upper reaches of the valley and then descend to the banks of the Clarée, which we follow up to the Drayères refuge. After taking a break and lightening our packs, we'll set off again with those who wish to climb to Seuil des Rochilles, Lac Rond and Lac du Grand Ban. A gentle environment that contrasts with the 3000m+ peaks and summits that surround us.
Basic itinerary: 4h walk, altitude difference +400m and -340m, 6kms.
Optional loop: 3h walk, altitude difference +320m and -320m, 6kms
Overnight at the Drayères refuge. Meals included: breakfast, picnic, dinner.

D3: Wednesday - Col des Muandes
We're off with those who'd like to tackle the Col des Muandes: a pass at 2828m that promises a magnificent ambience of high-mountain panoramas, small snow-covered lakes and hilly terrain that's great fun to descend. We return to the hut to meet up with those who preferred a quiet morning, and head back down to the Laval hut.
Optional loop, 5h walk, altitude difference +700m and -700m, 9kms.
Then 1h walk, altitude difference -150m, 3kms.
Overnight at the Laval refuge. Meals included: breakfast, picnic, dinner.

D4: Thursday - Col du Chardonnet
Gentle descent along the Clarée, then climb through the larches to the Chardonnet refuge. After a short break at the refuge, we set off again, light-bagged, with those who wish to do so, to reach the Col du Raisin: in fine weather, it offers an imposing panorama of the highest peaks in the Ecrins.
3h walk, altitude difference +400m and -170m, 4.5kms.
Optional loop of 3 hours' walking, altitude difference +470m and -470m, 5kms.
Overnight at the Chardonnet refuge. Meals included: breakfast, picnic, dinner.

D5 : Friday - Casse Pinière traverse - Buffère - Névache
From the Chardonnet refuge, we take a beautiful traverse over the heights of the valley to Buffère, where we begin our descent to Névache through the forest. We'll have a picnic lunch together and return to the parking lot at 2pm to allow for shuttle transfers to Briançon and Oulx train stations.
4h30 walking, altitude difference +300m and -900m, 8 kms
Meals included: breakfast, picnic.
