In good weather from Easter to All Saints' Day, a morning of pescatourism on the Santa-Maria is above all a moment of sharing with a fisherman who is passionate about the sea and his job.
Thierry Raut, owner-fisherman, takes you off the Saint-Mandrier peninsula to show you the two phases of his work: setting and hauling in the nets. Although he mainly fishes with nets, you'll also be able to pick up the longline set the evening before. Depending on the season, you'll be treated to a variety of Mediterranean fish: scorpion fish, conger eel, lobster, sars, sea bream, soup fish...
With Thierry, you'll set off at dawn from the port of Saint-Mandrier for a four-hour trip out to sea. Once back in port, you'll have the chance to accompany Thierry and see how the short fish circuit works in the Var.
On the quayside, it's his wife who sells the fish. Thierry only catches what he needs to live. No more, because the resource is vital for small-scale traditional coastal fishing!
