> History
The estate was founded along the Roman road "Via Aurelia" in the heart of the Provincia during the 10th century a.C.: long before Giovanni Bellini (the Venetian painter) or Vincenzo Bellini (the Sicilian composer) or the Bellini cocktail (at the famous Harry's Bar in Venice) came into being.
The Château is situated on a plateau overlooking a watery area known as Fontlade ( Fouant Lado - La grande Fontaine ) . The site was frequented by the Counts of Provence who resided in the nearby town of Brignoles, and offered refuge to Saint Thomas Aquinas in 1252 when he left the University of Naples for Notre Dame de Paris.
Our vineyard occupies approximately 35 hectares of chalk and clay terraces covered with stones and surrounded by oak forests. This region has a continental climate with hot, dry summers and cool nights, followed by winters with night frosts and pleasant days. These ideal conditions have contributed to its long tradition of viticulture, in its origins with the so-called Ligurian tribes, followed by the Romans during the creation of the "Gallia Narbonensis".
During 2016, to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Giovanni Bellini's death, we began a complete restructuring of the estate to restore its original beauty, a reconversion of the vineyard for better quality and a complete modernization of the winery.
