The name "Château Les Apiès" comes from the nearby Forêt des Apiès. In this forest, beekeepers have always placed their hives in natural shelters, known in Provençal as "apiès".
HISTORY :
The cellar is semi-buried, built of natural stone, with a typical "voutain" ceiling.
Until 1952, wine was made here under the "Clos d'Argens" appellation. The owners of the time decided to stop vinification on site, and handed over the harvest to the local cooperative winery. The winery and all its equipment (some thirty oak and concrete foudres, old presses, barrels, empty bottles and all winemaking equipment) were left behind.
Bought back in 2001, the winery was completely renovated and fitted with new, ultra-modern equipment: the stainless steel vats are thermo-regulated and the pneumatic press is microprocessor-controlled.
