The Domaine des Escaravailles was
founded in 1953 and owes its name to the
Occitan word for beetles - «escaravay»
or «scarabée». This nickname was given
by the village inhabitants to the Black
Penitents of Avignon, who owned it at the
time (1624).
It has belonged to the Farran family
for 3 generations. The vineyard covers
40 hectares at Rasteau and another 25
hectares spread over Cairanne, Roaix,
Villedieu and St-Roman-de-Malegarde.
