In the Southern Alps, the family resort of Ancelle welcomes you all year round in the heart of the spectacular landscapes of the Hautes Alpes. The village is 1,350 meters above sea level. It is located on a sunny plateau sheltered from the wind, at the base of a forest of firs and larches giving the resort its mountainous atmosphere. In winter, this is a true heaven for skiers, snow sports and snow lovers. From spring to autumn, nature and outdoor lovers can experience many outdoor activities. Winter sports in Ancelle

With an altitude between 1,350 meters and 1,710 meters, the ski area of Ancelle offers 26 kilometers of descent and a 360-meter elevation. Thanks to its north and northwest orientation and high-performance snowmaking equipment, the Ancelle resort offers excellent sliding conditions and good snow cover throughout the winter season. The 14 downhill ski slopes are particularly attractive to families, who will enjoy the accessible and fun slopes:

6 green slopes
5 blue slopes
2 red slopes
1 black slopes
a snowpark

If you are a beginner or would like to improve your skiing skills, the ski school offers group and private lessons for children and adults.

Do you prefer the vast open spaces and the peacefulness of wild nature? The Nordic area of Ancelle offers 18 kilometers of cross-country ski trails, with 4 loops for all levels, in the luxurious setting of the Rouanne valley. Since 2015, the cross-country ski trails are equipped with snow guns. Why not try other Nordic activities such as snowshoeing, dog sledding or ski joëring. This Scandinavian sport is a combination of skiing and being pulled by a horse.

Summer outdoor in Ancelle

Ancelle is a great place for walking enthusiasts. The Ancelle resort offers 130 kilometers of paths and trails that wind through fields, coniferous forests and mountain pastures. The different itineraries are accessible for all levels from the easy family walk to the high-altitude hike for experienced hikers. After an easy two-hour walk from the Col de Moissière, the view from the Croix Saint Philippe sur Gap and the Champsaur is impressive. You can also discover the landscapes of Champsaur on your bike or mountain bike: the valley is labelled “Site VTT FFC” (Moutain biking site labelled by the French Cycling Federation).

There are many other outdoor activities for kids and adults in Ancelle and its surrounding area: horse or donkey riding, via ferrata, canyoning, paragliding…

Throughout summer, you will enjoy the excellent weather conditions and climate of the south of France.

Discover the gems of Ancelle all year round

Have you heard of the “oreilles d’âne” and “tourtons”? These tasty specialties are a symbol of the Champsaur’s rich gastronomy. The people in Ancelle and its neighboring villages make a living mostly from tourism and agriculture and keep promoting a land full of character. Going to the local markets, inns and restaurants is a great way to discover the traditional dishes, desserts, cheeses and cold meats of the valley. On the terrace, under the summer or winter sun, or by the fireplace, share some friendly moments tasting the gourmet delicacies with family or friends!

During a walk you will see fountains, sundials and many other symbols of the mountain heritage. The small chapel of Les Petètes, at the Auberie, the sanctuary of the Notre-Dame de Bois-Vert chapel or the old parish church of Saint-Maurice are the religious heritage of these mountain hamlets and villages.

Whatever the season, from there, you can easily reach the city of Gap.

You can stroll through the lively shopping streets of the historic center, visit the Muséum Départemental des Hautes-Alpes (Museum of the Hautes-Alpes Department) or admire the sculptures and decorations of the Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Arnoux Cathedral de Gap.

Plan your holidays in Ancelle

In summer or in winter, we will help you prepare your stay in the resort of Ancelle by offering you a selection of resources and practical information. For further information, you can call the Ancelle Tourist Office at 04 92 67 03 04 or go there. It is located in the historic village, just a few meters away from the snow front.

Shops and restaurants

Have a quick lunch or an unforgettable sit-down dinner in one of the restaurants in the resort. Atmosphere and menu, the choice is yours! There are also different types of shops including a grocery store, a bakery and a pharmacy. A market takes place in Ancelle every Sunday morning.

Accommodation

Three hotels welcome you in Ancelle: Le Chamois, les Autanes and Les Gentianes. You can also stay at a country vacation rental or a bed and breakfast. In the summer, there are also two campsites in Ancelle where you can go camping.
