Auron ski resort

The Auron ski resort belongs to the town of Saint Etienne de Tinée, located in the Alpes Maritimes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. The Auron ski resort is less than one hour and a half away from Nice. It is 1600m above sea level and located at the gates of the Mercantour National Park. Whatever the season, winter or summer, the place has a great deal of activites to offer. You will appreciate your mountain vacation in this friendly resort where you can recharge your batteries.

Skiing and winter sports in Auron

The ski area of the Auron ski resort is divided into 4 areas:

Las Donnas
Sauma Long
Demandols
Lieuson

Several green, blue, red and black slopes are accessible by ski lifts (cable cars, chairlifts, ski lifts, gondola, rope tows and magic carpet). Beginners and experienced skiers alike can enjoy the pleasures of skiing there. While first-time skiers will learn how to ski, the experienced skiers will hurtle down the most difficult slopes. On the Ubac slope, you can enjoy the Family Park area which offers a fun and marked out course with obstacles and snow reliefs… You can also take lessons at the ESF of Auron (French Ski School).

Snow lovers will enjoy the Auron snowpark which is divided into 2 areas: the beginners’ area and the area for intermediate and confirmed skiers. Auron is also equipped with two “Tandem Ski” chairs so people with reduced mobility can enjoy the slopes with a qualified instructor. The Auron ski resort offers a wide range of winter activities such as snowmobiling or snow airboarding. Snow airboarders are lying on their stomach on an inflatable sled going down the slopes.

In order to appreciate the exceptional panoramas of the Mercantour National Park, go to Saint Dalmas le Selvage. It is only a few kilometers away from Auron. You will enjoy there a huge area perfect for ski touring, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing.

Summer outdoor in Auron

Auron offers plenty of outdoor activities in summer such as hiking, mountaineering, climbing, via ferrata, mountain biking, Nordic walking, trailing…. Experienced guides can help you discover this natural site safely.

In Auron – Saint Etienne de Tinée, you can enjoy 50 kilometers of mountain biking tracks and downhill tracks. There are also circuits for electric bikes. Whatever your level, you will certainly find an itinerary to practice or improve your mountain bike skills. The Bike Park of Auron and its ski lifts welcome you in summer.

You can also hike the Haute Tinée and the Mercantour National Park. There are many hiking trails that will take you through meadows and to 3000-meter-high summits. The hiking trails welcome hikers of all levels: families, experienced hikers…

If you wish to cool down, go canyoning in the valley of Cramassouri. Its water basins and polished limestone rocks make it a perfect spot for this activity… If you are looking for a more peaceful activity, go to the Trinitaires leisure center in Saint Etienne de Tinée to enjoy the lake with family or friends.

Discover the heritage and tourist gems of Auron all year round

During your stay, don’t miss the St Erige Chapel, a place of pilgrimage. As it is often the case in many mountain villages, in Saint Etienne de Tinée, the religious heritage is important. Many of its chapels are classified historical monuments. Some of them being the most beautiful in the department, with amazing mural paintings:

The Saint Sebastien chapel, built in the 15th century
The Chapel of the Trinitarians, built in the 18th century
The Saint Maur chapel, built in the 16th century

Visit the Musées des Traditions, du Lait, de l’Ecole et du Moulin (Tradition, Milk, School and Mill museums) to discover how the inhabitants of the Tinée Valley used to live.

Before you leave Auron, go to the Bergerie de la Belloire (la Belloire’s sheepfold) to discover the farm and buy sheep’s cheese, yoghurts, cottage cheese, sausages and ice cream.
