Cervières in summer, a hiker’s haven

A bridge between the Northern and Southern Alps, Cervières is the departure point for numerous hikes in beautifully-varied scenery. The high mountain valley of Fonts de Cervièresfeatures a range of trails of various difficulties, some leading to high-altitude lakes mirroring the surrounding peaks. Cervières, a hub of history

Some of the houses on the banks of La Cerveyrette date back to the 16th century and were built with timber frames. Initially founded on the left bank, village life has now switched to the right bank, with the exception of Eglise Saint-Michel topped with a Lombardy bell tower, which still stands overlooking the village houses. Keep your eyes peeled for sundials during your stroll – if you want a clue, just look for the town hall… Not to be missed too: the fortifications belonging to Briançon’s ancient defence network.
