Go to Le Sauze ski resort located in the town of Enchastrayes in the department of Alpes de Haute Provence in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. The Sauze Super Sauze resort is a village located in the heart of the Ubaye valley at an altitude of 1,400 meters, only 4 kilometers away from Barcelonnette. The authentic charm and the friendly atmosphere of the resort makes it a perfect location for a vacation in summer or in winter. You will be able to try many activities in the resort such as skiing, snowshoeing, dogsledding, hiking, mountain biking, Tubby Jumping, trailing and many more.

Skiing and other winter sports in Le Sauze resort

Le Sauze ski area extends over nearly 65 kilometers of slopes, between 1,400 and 2,400 meters of altitude, accessible to all levels. Take one of the different ski lifts available (chairlifts, ski lifts, snow threads) to get to the green, blue, red and black slopes. Experienced skiers will prefer to descend in the Le Brec and Fours area while beginners will feel more comfortable in the Alp area. Le Sauze ski area is adapted to everyone thanks to its large tracks, bumps and slopes in the woods… To meet everyone’s desires, the area also has a snowpark, a boardercross, a Kid Park and a training stadium.

If you stay in Le Sauze 1700 in winter, try ski touring. There is a lot of marked trails in the Ubaye. You will enjoy an enchanting setting and ride through quiet forests while staying close to the slopes and ski lifts. Trade your skis for snowshoes for a sporty ride. Winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy riding a snowscoot or go dog sledding.

Sauze Super Sauze in summer: outdoor activities

The Sauze Super Sauze resort is also very popular during summer. The town of Enchastrayes has even been classified Tourism Resort with its preserved and breathtaking natural setting. Admire the view of the “Cirque Chapeau de Gendarme and the Brecs”. On your way through the mountains you will enjoy walking in the woods, watching the streams, and admiring the mountain pastures and the ibexes. There are more than 30 kilometers of hiking trails that cross Le Sauze, Le Sauze 1700 and the Enchastrayes rivers. There are more than 800 kilometers of hiking trails in the Ubaye. The resort’s chairlifts will take you to the summit where you can enjoy the panoramic views and easily get back to the hiking trails. The more experienced can take the trail routes.

Le Sauze is the starting point of the FFC (French Cycling Federation) approved site which stretches over 340 kilometers in the Ubaye valley. Between forests, summits, railway tunnels… the mountain bike trails go through forests, railway tunnels and to the summits. They are great for a family ride or a long-distance ride. The most experienced go riding on the 7 cols:

  • the Pontis Col (1,301 meters of altitude)
  • the Saint Jean Col (1,333 meters of altitude)
  • the Allos Col (2 250 meters of altitude)
  • the Cayolle Col (2,326 meters of altitude)
  • the Bonette Col (2,802 meters of altitude)
  • the Vars Col (2 109 meters of altitude)
  • the Col of Sainte Anne (1 830 meters of altitude)

In Le Sauze 1700, thrill seekers will also want to try Tubby Jumping. You will have to sit down on a buoy and hurtle down the slope before jumping into the air and landing on a big air bag. In summer, you can also try white water sports such as rafting, canyoning or kayaking. To learn how to climb or improve your skills, you can go to the Méolans Revel, Pont Vouté and Maljasset school sites.

You will find many stores there: local craftsmen and producers’ stores, bakery, grocery stores, sports stores…
