Val d’Oronaye ski resort

The Val d’Oronaye ski resort is located in the Alpes de Haute Provence department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. It is 1,700 meters above sea level, close to Italy and it expands over the Mercantour National Park. The town of Le Val d’Oronaye was born when the villages of Larche and Meyronnes merged. A few kilometers away from Barcelonnette and Pra-Loup, the mountain village offers a preserved and wild space, perfect for outdoor activities such as skiing in winter and hiking in summer. Whatever the season, stay in the mountain to recharge your batteries.

Skiing and winter sports in Le Val d’Oronaye

In winter, the Val d’Oronaye is appreciated for its Nordic area at altitudes between 1,700 to 2,000 meters. It is the first cross-country skiing site in the department with more than 30 kilometers of skating or classic tracks expanding in the Lauzanier valley. You can ski up the trails that wind through the mountain.

The family resort also offers a space dedicated to the practice of alpine skiing and snowboarding with slopes for all levels accessible by ski lifts (drag lifts). The site is particularly adapted to first-time skiers.

The area also offers snowshoeing trails along the Ubayette river, close to the Italian border. During your hike, you may come across hares and ptarmigans.

Children will enjoy sledding and dog sledding. Your stay in the Val d’Oronaye in winter will be fun and exciting!

Summer outdoor in the Val d’Oronaye

You can also go to the Val d’Oronaye in summer and explore its incredible landscapes during a hike. Numerous itineraries are adapted to all levels, beginners or experienced hikers. Along the torrents, in the undergrowth, on the lakeshores or on the summits, you will enjoy an exceptional natural site and will be able to admire the green and flowery mountain pastures. You will be able to discover the rich and varied fauna and flora. Close to the Italian Piedmont and to Queyras, you will discover the beauty of the Mercantour National Park through the Lauzanier valley. Along the way, you may be lucky enough to come across marmots.

The sports enthusiasts can also explore the area on a mountain bike on the several marked trails or go on a climbing session on the Rocher de Saint Ours, the Aiguille and the Brec du Chambeyron, etc. To cool down, you can go swimming to the lake of Serre Ponçon, the lake of Siguret or the lake of Lauzet Ubaye.

Discover the gems of Val d’Oronaye all year round

The village of Val d’Oronaye was created after Larche and Meyronnes merged. Its historical and architectural heritage is rich. Its numerous fortifications are a reminder of its military history. Discover the remains of the old Maginot line such as the forts and blockhouses of Malemort, Le Colombier and the works of Roche la Croix, Saint Ours Haut and Saint Ours Bas. Each was used among others to repel the Italian attacks during the Second World War in 1940. When visiting the Val d’Oronaye don’t miss Notre Dame des Neiges church, built in the 20th century and Saint Donat church, built in the 19th century. You can also discover other chapels in the village such as the chapel of Saint Jean Baptiste which was built in the 19th century and the chapel of Saint Ours.
