Val Pelens ski resort

The ski resort of Val Pelens is located in the town of Saint Martin d’Entraunes, in the Alpes Maritimes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. It is only a 2-hour drive away from the coast and Nice and just next to the Mercantour National Park. The resort is located in the Var valley, 1,600 meters above sea level, in a larch forest and at the base of the famous Aiguilles de Pelens. Its friendly atmosphere makes it a perfect resort for a family stay in summer and winter. In winter, you will be able to practice skiing, snowshoeing and enjoy a sunny hike. The destination is famous for its natural environment, its large choice of activities and its historical and architectural heritage.

The ski area of Val Pelens

The ski area of Val Pelens offers 3 kilometers of green and blue alpine ski slopes at altitudes between 1,600 and 1,750 meters. They are accessible by ski lifts (drag lifts). The site is very appreciated by the beginners and the youngest who can practice thanks to the Colleta Reina ski lift, called “télékit”. Thanks to the Lunetta ski lift, the second one, you will be able to improve your skiing skills on the slopes once you will have practiced enough.

Val Pelens is also a great place for ski touring or snowshoeing. Many marked trails go through the mountain, including for example the trail that will take you to the Col des Champs, which is 2,045 metres above sea level.

Summer in Val Pelens

In summer, the exceptional landscapes of Val Pelens attract hikers. A lot of marked trails meander between plateaus and summits, in the Var valley and in the Mercantour National Park. A lot of hiking trails depart from the plateau of Val Pelens or from the Col des Champs. For example, you can reach the Pointe de la Figulière, near the Saint Barnabé chapel, to admire the spectacular view of the Var valley. From Sussis, you can get to the highest point of the Puy du Pas Roubinous, at an altitude of 2,516 meters. Some difficult itineraries are only adapted to experienced hikers. Some others are more adapted to beginners or mountain riders.

Only a few kilometers away from Saint Martin d’Entraunes, in Puget Théniers, you can go rafting or kayaking down the river for an exciting and fun experience! Thrill seekers should not miss the 2,663-meter long zip line of La Colmiane. It can reach a maximum speed of 130 km/h and is divided into 2 parts.

Discover the gems of Val Pelens all year round

Throughout the year, you can come and visit Val Pelens in Saint Martin d’Entraunes to discover its alpine village. Don’t miss the romanesque church of Saint Martin, built in the 12th and 13th century and its Gothic elements. It has been classified as a Historic Monument. Stroll through the village and enjoy its main square and typical alleys and admire the colored houses. Saint Martin d’Entraunes, just like many mountain villages, is made of many hamlets:

  • Sussis
  • Pra Pelet
  • Val Pelens
  • Les Clots
  • Les Blancs
  • Le Gage
  • Le Clot
  • Les Vallières

Just like in all the mountain villages, there are some chapels on the countryside roads and on the summits. They were built so that the inhabitants of the hamlets could pray even in winter when they were not able to move around because of the weather. You can also walk to the Saint Jacques au Serre chapel or to the Saint Barnabé plateau.
