Start with the little streets of Gordes

Presence and delicacy… a charming unforgettable village in the Vaucluse

It overlooks the Calavon Valley in the Luberon, almost as if it was suspended in time, perched high on a rocky outcrop of the Monts de Vaucluse it almost seems to brush against the sky… Gordes belongs to the prestigious listing of the Plus Beaux Villages de France and charms all its visitors even from a distance. When you get to the foot of the village, you can wander through its little interwoven streets and climb up to the top. As you walk, the cobbled streets guide you between high buildings and trees and there you have the star of the show… After a browse around the shops and restaurants, visit the château which is a listed Historical Monument and L’église Saint Firmin whose bell-tower was once used as a watch tower to keep a close eye on the plain below. The two buildings stand tall as the great protectors of the town!
The fairy-tale atmosphere when Gordes is clothed in its cloak of snow is an absolute must: an awesome postcard effect for amateur photographers and influencers, this will not have escaped the notice of instagrammers this month. We really advise coming out of season.

Continue in history, culture and out-of-the-ordinary mode!

A stone-built village or a prestigious edifice?

If Gordes is so popular, it’s also due to its architectural, historical and cultural heritage! Of course you have the village des Bories nestled on one of the slopes of the Monts de Vaucluse which you get to along paths lined with dry-stone walls setting the tone of the visit. These are the dry-stone huts which made this village so specific. There are a lot of these unusual huts and they are all unique and remarkable both for their architecture and their historical strength. Each building had its own function and a specific role, from the barn to the stables and the agricultural storehouse. The layout has even made it possible to reveal a certain social and economic organisation. A leap back in time which is continued to the north when you contemplate and meditate on the famous Abbaye de Sénanque . Renowned for its fields of lavender as far as the eye can see, you will also be surprised by the beauty of its Romanesque style: purity and sobriety have inhabited this abbey which has formed with its two sisters the famous Cistercian sisters of Provence, since the 12th century.
