The Verdon Natural Park

Seven territories with varied landscapes testify to the biodiversity of the Verdon Regional Nature Park: the Valensole plateau, the low gorges, with hills covered with kermes oaks, the lake of Sainte-Croix, the lakes and mountains, an ideal place to observe the stars, the Artuby, the Verdon Gorges, the largest canyon in Europe, the hills of the Haut-Var… You will be able to practice many outdoor activities, alone or in couple, with friends or family. The Park is particularly well suited to hiking. You can also take to the roads of the Verdon by bike, try your hand at rock climbing, via ferrata or tree climbing, or even experience your first flight by paragliding…

If you’re heading for La Palud-sur-Verdon from the Lac de Sainte-Croix, you might like to plan a visit to the village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, which has been awarded the title of Most Beautiful Village in France. Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is famous for its golden cross suspended between two cliffs, and its expertise in earthenware.

You can continue upstream along the Verdon to the small town of Castellane. Don’t miss the Chapelle Notre-Dame-du-Roc.

The Geological Reserve of Haute-Provence

Discover the treasures of the Haute-Provence National Geological Nature Reserve, such as the ammonite slab, the ichthyosaur fossils of La Robine or the mermaid fossils of Taulanne. You can retrace the rich and complex geological history of the region at the UNESCO Geopark of Haute-Provence museum interpretation centre.
