The Préalpes of the French Riviera Park
Between sun and mountains, Côte d’Azur and Mercantour, the Parc des Préalpes d’Azur has a surprising variety of territories with mountains, hills, deep gorges, forests and agricultural valleys. With more than 2000 plant species, the Park is home to a third of France’s flowers and plants, including 65 species that are protected and 40 species found only in the region. The fauna is also very rich in the French Préalpes: bird species (rock swallow, pipit rousseline, blue mound, boreal chickadee), reptiles and amphibians (Orsini’s viper, Strinatii’s hydromant)….) The Park has been designed to welcome lovers of nature activities, while respecting the ecosystems. Hiking enthusiasts will be able to follow the marked trails. You will also be able to take off on the paths of the Park on mountain bikes, to initiate you to climbing, to take off on a via ferrata, or to get to know the clouds during a first paragliding experience… Men have been present on these lands for thousands and thousands of years and have left us a rich historical heritage: grain mills, oil mills, windmills, castles, chapels, churches, oratories… Mountain agriculture is practiced in the Préalpes. The local markets and village grocery stores will allow you to discover an exceptional terroir: honey and gingerbread, mountain cheese, lamb meat, market garden and farm produce, olives, olive oil…
