Préalpes of the French Riviera: the Alps on the sunny side
From the marriage between the French Riviera and the mountains were born the Préalpes d’Azur. The landscapes are at the same time bucolic and wild: agricultural valleys, woods and forests, meadows, vertiginous valleys? With more than 2000 plant species, the Park is home to a third of France’s flora, including 65 species that are protected and 40 species that are found nowhere else. Numerous animal species also make their home in the Parc des Préalpes d’Azur : bird species (golden eagle, Jean-le-Blanc circaète, European owl, mad bunting, griffon vulture, red-billed crab, ortolan bunting, European nightjar, rock swallow, pipit rousseline, rock ptarmigan, Redstart, Red-backed Shrike, Red-backed Shrike, Melodious Linnet, Boreal Chickadee, Black Grouse, Blue Mound, Scaly Tichodrome), reptiles and amphibians (Strinatii’s Hydromant, Orsini’s Viper….) The Park has been designed to welcome lovers of nature activities, while respecting natural areas… Numerous itineraries have been planned for hiking enthusiasts. You can also cycle along the roads of the Préalpes, climb, canyon or go horse riding… The authentic villages are a reminder of a human occupation several thousand years old. During your tourist escapades, you can admire bread ovens, castles, wash houses, fountains, churches, oratories… Producers in love with their land continue to give life to a traditional know-how. Markets and grocery stores will introduce you to local flavors: gingerbread, honey, mountain cheese, lamb meat, farm and market garden products, olive products (oil and pasta)…
