By taking the side roads that will lead you to this charming village, you will be able to revitalize yourself in a quiet environment, a thousand miles away from the excessive pace of the city.

The historical heritage of the Southern French Alps offers singular treasures: churches, chapels, old houses, manor houses, castles, etc. You can visit the church of Saint-Marcellin, the chapel of Saint Jean-Baptiste des Pananches, the chapel of Saint Barthélémy, the chapel of the Penitents of Notre Dame d’Espérance and the farmhouse. The neighbouring town of Briançon is renowned for its fortifications, which date back to Vauban. The historic centre is a great place to visit.

Several nature activities await you in this high-alpine village. The village is the starting point for many hiking trails. Whether you want to hike for several hours or walk with your family, you will easily find itineraries suitable for both uninitiated and experienced hikers. Other activities are also available in the Southern French Alps, such as climbing and horse riding. In winter, you can enjoy one of the finest ski areas in the Alps: the Serre-Chevalier ski resort.

During your stay, you can also savour mountain gastronomy: tourtons from Champsaur, oreilles d’âne from Valgaudemar (a meatless speciality made from wild spinach), cheeses, jams, honeys… You can visit the local producers, or go to the markets in the valley’s villages.

The Southern French Alps in winter

In winter, you can ski on the slopes of this mountain resort in the Massif des Écrins. Enjoy skiing or snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and more. La Salle-les-Alpes is part of the Serre-Chevalier ski area, one of the most beautiful in the Southern French Alps with several hundred kilometers of snow-covered slopes. You can also explore the fields of powder snow or take the forest trails by dog sled.

The mountains in summer

Different season, different setting. In summer, La Salle-les-Alpes is a paradise for lovers of hiking, cycling, horse riding, climbing, via ferrata or white water sports. The heritage is exceptional in the region. It includes the fortified city and the citadels of Briançon.

Some hikes take you to magnificent high mountain lakes. The most intrepid can climb the Rocher du Bez via ferrata, located in the commune of La Salle-les-Alpes.
