The castle of Lourmarin

The castle of Lourmarin consists of two main parts: the old castle, built at the end of the Middle Ages (15th century), and a building dating from the Renaissance (16th century). The ensemble forms an elegant architectural whole.

A strange story of a curse is attached to the castle of Lourmarin. In the 1920s, the abandoned castle was occupied by gypsies. When the new owner, Robert Laurent-Vibert, bought it, he threw them out. The gypsies put a curse on the place. Since then, several brutal deaths (suicides, road accidents) have affected the occupants of the castle. Albert Camus, buried in Lourmarin, died in a car accident after staying at the château. There is no evidence of this curse, but it is part of local folklore. The castle is safe to visit!
