The Comtat Venaissin

Sablet was for a long time part of the Comtat Venaissin, a territory administered by the popes. Stretching essentially to the east of Avignon, from Caderousse to Mont-Ventoux, this territory is renowned for the beauty of its landscapes and its exceptional historical heritage.

By visiting the towns and villages of the Comtat Venaissnin, you can discover the presence of the former popes in certain names (Châteauneuf-du-Pape), and admire the many monuments that were built during their reign, starting with the Palais des Papes.

Museums and monuments near Sablet

There are many museums and monuments close to the village of Sablet.

The town of Vaison-la-Romaine is famous for its ancient remains, its Roman bridge, its castle and its medieval historic centre.

The city of Orange boasts a theatre and a triumphal arch built by the Romans.

The city of Avignon is still protected by long walls, and is home to the Palais des Papes, numerous town houses and museums.
