The Gîte de l’École of the School is installed in the old municipal school of the village of Dormillouse, in 1728 m of height. In this place authentic and steeped in history, Mathilde will receive you summer and winter alike in a friendly and cosy atmosphere.

Perched in 1730 meters, the Refuge de l'École is in the former(old) municipal school of Dormillouse (only village lived in the central zone of the Parc national des Écrins.

Decorated quite simply, the building is full of history, and you will enjoy the very convivial hospitality! Dinner is served in the vaulted arch dining room and 2 comfortable bedrooms (6 and 8 beds) upstairs where the old classromm used to be; in summer you can enjoy breakfast on the terrace before your walking tour of the lakes Palluel and Faravel.
In the winter the gite opens from 28th of december until the end of march.

In the practical work category for hiking and nature enthusiasts, the Gîte de l'École is a wonderful "object lesson" in the mountains...
The classroom is at the bottom of the Freissinières valley, in the heart of the Ecrins National Park. Today, pupils of all ages have swapped their school bags for sticks and backpacks to walk the path that leads to this historic site in the tiny hamlet of Dormillousse. Accessible only on foot, at an altitude of 1700 m, the refuge is open both summer and winter.
Solar energy, a vegetable garden and henhouse in the garden, local organic produce, home cooking - everything is done to welcome hikers in a simple, comfortable and warm setting, in perfect harmony with the environment.
