The 4 donkeys we meet in the meadow on the outskirts of the refuge are not there for folklore. Isolated at 2,300 m, they're the only way to get what you need. Catherine, the janitor, has chosen this method of transport. In addition to their efficiency, their presence is a plus in the refuge's environment; they love welcoming hikers and gleaning a few pats.
Located in an ancient ice-age cirque, the splendor of the landscape is breathtaking. Lakes, waterfalls and a wealth of flora and fauna make this an exceptional place.
Accommodation is in 15-person dormitories. There are no showers, so the more adventurous can take a dip in the lake. Catherine concocts delicious dishes, using organic and local produce, and offers her delicious homemade jams for breakfast.
