Abrivado competition: A festival to honour the manades in Vauvert

For all those of you who are keen on horses or bulls, get ready for the only abrivado competition in the Gard! In Provence, the manades, herds guided by elegant horse-riders who are also known as gardians are celebrated. During this competition between several manades, you can admire their successive passes, full of verve and dexterity: each manade is judged on its apparel, harnessing, speed and bull-running. Riders, you will be the best guides! Because in Vauvert we enjoy festivities, a peña and a folk group are a must in the traditional competition. You can also watch the procession of beautiful carriages and a course camarguaise with the Trophée des As for the winner, and of course, visit the local produce and fine crafts fair!

Poésie et Chansons: A poetic event in the Land of Lavender!

Organised by the association Les Poètes des Hautes Terres, this event gathers together the enthusiasts who love traditional and popular French poetry for poetry and audio-visual shows, often to a musical acccompaniment. You can meet poets there who defend the beauty of the French language and who tell and illustrate their works during poetry walks on the lavender-filled plateau. Some readings of extracts from works by old and contemporary Provencal poets will excite your imagination. Talented singers and musicians honour the great 20th century “chanteurs à texte” singers in a series of homages. Jacques Brel, Georges Brassens, Edith Piaf and Barbara have alreadybeen celebrated. Come and hear the next ones with music!
