Clocher Saint-Pierre

Historic site and monument, Religious heritage, Bell tower in Isola
  • This fine Romanesque church tower stands isolated in a meadow, since the waters of La Guerche torrent carried away its church.

  • This fine example of architecture of Lombard influence is characteristic of mediaeval church towers throughout the Alpine Arc. Built in the mid-12th century, it has three levels for bells with apertures. The upper levels are gemelled with colonnettes decorated with capitals sculpted with anthropomorphic and plant motifs.
