Description
The church of the Dominican friars (friars preachers) built in the 16th century, became a parish in 1803 under the name of Saint-Cannat, former bishop of Marseille.
The facade was built by the Gérard brothers in a Roman style (from 1739 to 1744), which contrasts with the nave which is of a late Gothic style. The baptistery is located in the first chapel on the left. A gilded gate gives access to it. It is dominated by the classified painting by Pierre Parrocel (18th century) representing the baptism of Christ.
Also to be seen : the high altar in polychrome marble (1755) and paintings by Serre, Reisson, Faudran. Pulpit of the 17th century. Parish priest : Xavier Autonès.
The Isnard organ case of 1747 is a two-part case. The instrumental part which was originally by Isnard was restored by Borme. Several restorations were necessary after the Revolution: that of Génoyer and that of Blondeau. In 1936 important recomposition by Merklin, Dunand and Chéron. The case is classified as a historical monument.
The church is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 9am to 1pm, Wednesday from 9am to 7pm, Friday from 9am to 12pm, Saturday from 3pm to 7pm.
