The Villa Fort France was built around 1930 by Lady Fortescue, a British writer, who wrote her bestseller "Perfume from Provence" there.
The garden presents a very large botanical variety.

To explore the Garden of Fort de France in Grasse is to immerse oneself in the singular and endearing universe of Valérie de Courcel. It is to penetrate the intimacy of creation, that of the painter and that of nature. This garden initially created by the British writer Lady Fortescue is still today an inexhaustible land of inspiration maintained with passion.
- Based at the Villa Fort France since 1990, Valérie de Courcel continues the story of the garden initiated by writer Winifred Fortescue 60 years earlier. Over time, she has written a long story of flowers and colors.
For this painter, brushwork mingles with pruning, grafting and layering. She arranges an infinite palette of greens, plays with shadows, lights and the color of the seasons, associates topiaries and wild groves...
Guided tours (by appointment) offer an intimate insight into this artist's garden. A special atmosphere emanates from this dense, flower-filled natural setting as you progress from terrace to terrace.
