The monastery of the "Visitation Sainte Marie" was founded in 1641 and approved by Saint Jeanne de Chantal, founder of the Visitation order, at the behest of the town, which passionately wished to have a monastery of this order.
This monastery still exists but nothing remains of the 17th century buildings: they were abandoned for reasons of insalubrity in the 19th century, and then demolished to allow for the construction of the boys' school, which was in turn destroyed by the 1944 bombings. In 1854, the community was moved outside the city, to the Jarnègues district, where it is located today.
