Saint Roch Chapel in St. Dalmas Valdeblore

A chapel built around the 14th century, at the fork in the roads leading to La Colmiane and Millefonts. It houses a canvas painting in the form of an altarpiece, featuring Saint Roch and his dog at its center, as well as an 18th-century altar frontal on which they are also depicted. This chapel is a typical “barrier chapel,” dedicated to a saint who protects against the plague (often St. Roch and St. Sebastian). When epidemics ravaged the region, food, goods, and merchandise destined for the village were left at the chapel, thus preventing contact with people coming from outside.
