At the beginning of the 18th® century, this promontory was equipped with a modest fortification built by Vauban, of which a spur remains.
Following the annexation of the County of Nice by France in 1860, the imperial government built La Batterie de Beaulieu, a customs post and fort, completed in 1862.
The site lies within a rich Gallo-Roman archaeological zone, which in 1897 provided Dr. Johnston Lavis with a vast cemetery.
