An exceptional event for all dance lovers: the Ukrainian National Opera Ballet offers 2 performances of DON QUICHOTTE in the pure tradition of classical ballet.
The city of Cannes and the Palais des Festivals de Cannes are supporting the charity association Chère Ukraine to promote Ukrainian artists and to raise funds to support the victims of the conflict. All profits from the performances will be donated to the "Rebuilding Ukraine" programme of the United24 platform and to the MASHA foundation to help children affected by the war.
PRESENTATION
Choreographer Marius Petipa's "Don Quixote" is one of the most famous choreographic works in the world and remains one of the most popular with audiences.
Having travelled extensively in the cities of Spain, Marius Petipa, who was born in Marseille, immersed himself in the spirit and traditions of Spanish folk dance. He succeeded in embodying all its richness and originality on stage with the music of Léon Minkus, which wonderfully reveals its emotions and images on stage.
In 1988, this ballet, choreographed in a new version by Viktor Lytvynov for the artists of the Ukrainian National Opera, carefully preserved and restored Petipa's work, producing a dynamic and lively version thanks to the exceptional performance of the dancers of the Ukrainian Opera Ballet:
Stanislav Olshansky, Principal Dancer of the Ukrainian National Opera and Miami City Ballet. With his powerful technique and charisma, he is considered one of the best dancers in Ukraine, having performed on the most important international stages.
Anastasia Gurska, Principal Dancer of the Ukrainian National Opera, has become a true star of the Kiev stage. Her light and precise dance is particularly appreciated by critics and the public.
