A puppet tale for the whole family
Shaking up the dominant imaginary
By Cie La Barbe à Maman
In the village of Cro-Mignon-sur-Vent, Caillou is such an intrepid and curious girl that her brother, in
anger, steals her voice. But in doing so, he himself falls into an endless sleep, and his heart...disappears! So Caillou sets off in search of the Bouffe-Cœur to regain his speech. Through his journey, Caillou rebels against an order presented as immutable and seeks an alternative to his assigned place, inviting young spectators to imagine a world where everything has to be reinvented.
Inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin's theory of basket fiction, Caillou et le Bouffe-Cœur is an initiation tale that questions gender stereotypes. It asserts that girls - and boys - can be brave, dreamy, cowardly or enterprising. In short, they can be whatever they want to be, without being limited by society's expectations. By addressing children with poetry and hope, the two protagonists of this show - Stéphane Bientz, author, actor and puppeteer, and Bruno Michellod, illustrator, actor and puppeteer - suggest ways in which children can grow up without fear of judgement and by redefining the dominant imaginations.
