Overview of protected wildlife in the Alpes-Maritimes by Vincent Kulesza
Vincent Kulesza is a naturalist expert, photographer, tour guide and the initiator and co-author of two books: ‘Mémento de la flore protégée des Alpes-Maritimes’ (Guide to the protected flora of the Alpes-Maritimes) and ‘Faune protégée des Alpes-Maritimes’ (Protected fauna of the Alpes-Maritimes). He has written numerous popular science and technical articles. He was president of the Conservatoire d'Espaces Naturels de PACA (CEN Paca) for 15 years.

‘Overview of the protected fauna of the Alpes-Maritimes’
Our department is home to more than two-thirds of France's fauna, including 260 protected species (excluding birds and marine species), which ranks it first nationally.
Who would have thought that many of these animals are endemic, including snails, squirrels, ocellated lizards and bats?
These animals deserve more than our respect, to the point that every square metre of construction is harmful to them!
