This Provençal custom has become very rare and is well worth seeing. After dismantling the Christmas crib, it involves depicting the presentation of the baby Jesus at the temple 40 days after his birth. This obviously requires new figurines, such as the high priest, and a new setting, the temple.
Part of the tour will also be devoted to the Way of St James and the landmarks that mark its route through the city. Aix-en-Provence was an important stopover for pilgrims coming from Italy on their way to Santiago de Compostela and for those travelling in the opposite direction on pilgrimage to Rome.
