Choreographer Julien Lestel has established a distinctive style with his resolutely modern, unique, aesthetic and powerful creations.
This new adaptation of Carmen, with its distinctly urban and resolutely contemporary feel, resonates with the current awareness of women's place in our society, their emancipation and their desire for equality, and raises the issue of feminicide. A rebellious gypsy woman from Seville is stopped in her quest for freedom by a man's murderous jealousy. The originality of this choreography draws its strength from contemporary movement and music. Iván Julliard's electro-acoustic musical creation rubs shoulders with the instrumental works of Georges Bizet and Rodion Shchedrin. It is a Carmen transposed into today's world, beyond all boundaries.
