The ballet features famous episodes such as the meeting with the travelling comedians, the battle against the windmills and the famous "pas de deux" of Don Quixote and Kitri, full of virtuosity that has become a hobbyhorse for classical stars.
First performed at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow on 14 December 1869, inspired by the novel by Cervantes, Don Quixote is one of the most prestigious works in the history of classical dance. Performed by the greatest ballet stars, Don Quixote is one of the pinnacles of the art of dance. The ballet combines the love story of the young Quiterie (Kitri) and the barber Basile with the odyssey of the "knight with the sad face". Don Quixote, an eccentric old knight obsessed with the ideal of chivalry, is haunted by a vision of utopian love, Dulcinea.
