Fernand BONIFAY: 30 years on!
On August 29, 1993, our friend Fernand escaped from the world of French chanson, leaving behind some 3000 songs, including almost 300 hits, some of which we still remember from time to time on the radio.
He joined his beloved "Maman la plus belle du Monde", Lucie.
And last year, it was his Aunt Jacqueline who went to join him among the stars and her husband, Fernand's uncle Alexandre.
Sadly, after 30 years, few of Fernand's friends are still with us to show their friendship.
As a result, only a few people remain, their noses still bent over documents and photos, and melodies that sometimes made the audience dance, but above all made a whole host of stars sing, from the 50s onwards to the present day, since for the tenth anniversary of his death, our association had already released a CD featuring 16 of his songs, and local singers had lent themselves to the game so as not to forget him.
Born in Paris in 1920, on a September 4th, the Bonifay family nevertheless lived in La Seyne sur Mer, and throughout his career, he organized his life between Paris and La Seyne. His mother, Lucie, lived here, at Chemin Coste Chaude (Chemin Fernand Bonifay today since 2001), in this house she loved so much, and so did he, and for which he wrote "Petite Suzon".
It's hard to describe Fernand's career, so diverse and varied was he. His artistically rich life left an important cultural legacy for over fifty years.
His determination was such that many would envy him today. Lyrics that we still have on the tip of our tongues, sometimes without knowing it: "le facteur de Santa Cruz", "Luna Rossa", "Les trois bandits de Napoli", "Jambalaya", "Maman la plus belle du Monde", "Prenez mon cœur et mes roses", "Arrivederchi Roma", "Du moment qu'on s'aime", "24000 Baisers", "Petite Fleur", "Souvenirs Souvenirs", which made Johnny Halliday's career, but not only.
Indeed, the likes of Dalida, Gloria Lasso, Dario Moreno, Annie Cordy (who was our association's Marraine de cœur), and so many others that I'd be hard-pressed to list them all, like his many titles, have performed Fernand Bonifay.
But also some film scores, such as "Monsieur Suzuki agent secret", "Les Voyages insolites aux pays saugrenus", the operetta "Coquin de printemps", which is replayed from time to time, and "Pacifico" for Georges Guétary, among others. To thank him, Bourvil recorded a disc of four songs for him, "Bourvil chante Fernand Bonifay".
