Exhibition a Palais for a Festival : from the Casino Municipal to the Palais des Festivals et des Congrés

Exhibition from 1946 to 1982.
The Municipal Archives are offering an exhibition devoted to the history of the building that has served as the setting for the most legendary film festival. From the municipal casino, a high point of Cannes' entertainment, which was fitted out in a hurry to host the aborted edition of 1939 and the first edition of 1946, to the construction of the current Palais des festivals et des congrès, the aim is to retrace, from administrative and private archives, almost half a century of the history of Cannes.

This exhibition aims to show, on the one hand, the means used by the local economic and political actors in order to anchor the festival definitively in Cannes, and on the other hand, to evoke the relationship of the Cannes inhabitants with the Palais des festivals, and beyond with the festival and the cinema.
