The Chapel of the Blue Penitents showcases Serge Bidin's vibrant world. Inspired by La Ciotat's naval history, the artist unveils powerful and colourful works.
Serge Bidin's paintings are recognisable by their bold compositions, in which astonishing metal wading birds seem to soar towards the sky. Through these figures, the artist conveys the maritime spirit of La Ciotat. He plays with materials and the patina of time: rusty textures, purple tones, flashes of light, echoing the history of the old shipyards.
His world is filled with bold, contrasting colours – intense reds, deep greens, bright yellows and deep blacks – which infuse his works with vibrant energy.
Between abstraction, silhouettes and stylised characters, Serge Bidin captivates with the visual power and vitality of his pictorial expression.
Three guest artists enrich this exhibition:
Yuna Club, photographer, explores the many facets of the visual arts, between architecture and graphic design. Through her subtle work with blurring, light and contrasts, she transforms reality into poetic and unexpected visions.
Dov Bellity offers an eclectic universe, combining minimalism, abstraction and digital art. He made a name for himself in La Ciotat by scattering around fifty reinterpreted Mona Lisas throughout the city, which became a real local phenomenon.
Pascale Auberger Casini, a sculptor, brings materials to life using the Japanese technique of Raku, revealing glazes with changing reflections, shaped by fire and smoke.
An artistic encounter where painting, sculpture and photography interact, between memory and modernity, in a vibrant and sensitive dialogue.
