The Domaine de Lagoy boutique is delighted to present an exhibition by Cécile Menendez from 14 July to 31 August in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence!
Opening on 18 July from 7pm to 8.30pm
"This is an imaginary journey that has its roots in the American West of western films seen with my father as a child. It's a unique journey that I made for the first time with my family in 2014. The family archives of my parents' albums from 1950 to 1990 are woven into this narrative and fictional story.
Each image attempts to capture the spirit of the American West, but also the memories and emotions of the relationship with the father, mixing reality and fiction to create an idealised journey, a reparation in the land of cowboys and Indians.
My father was marked by the tragedies of the Spanish Civil War, separated from his parents when he was still a child. There were many wounds in his personality, including having left school at a young age, having been separated from his mother during this exile and not having had the chance, for economic reasons, to travel to America as an adult."
