A series of prints made from glass plates preserved at the Ecole Biblique et Archéologique Française in Jerusalem, under the direction of Father Jean-Michel de Tarragon.
Presented here are 17 views of Bethlehem and the Church of the Nativity. Exhibition runs until February 2026. Opening on Friday October 10th from 6pm, in the presence of Jean-Michel de Tarragon.
In the maze of the city, the Rue de l'Étoile climbs towards the Basilica of the Nativity. This road has linked and connected the destinies of countless men and women, who have inscribed the name of Bethlehem in universal history.
Through 17 vintage photographs, the exhibition offers a glimpse of Bethlehem at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The town where Jesus was born, the site of so many pilgrimages for almost 2,000 years, is given pride of place thanks to black-and-white photographs from the exceptional photographic collection of the École Biblique et Archéologique Française in Jerusalem.
The exhibition was originally scheduled to be presented during the Journées francophones de Bethléem, October 24-28, 2023. These days were to offer artistic and cultural educational activities to promote the French-speaking world, aimed at local residents, pupils from Christian schools and students from Bethlehem University. The project was financed by L'Œuvre d'Orient and the Fondation Khôra-Institut de France. It had to be postponed because of the war with Gaza triggered by the October 7 attacks. The exhibition will be presented to the public for the first time in the De natura rerum bookshop, from October 10, 2025 to the end of February 2026.
