Fanny Simone Yvette GELLY is a painter and visual artist from the south of France.
After studying Fine Arts at university, she exhibited her first solo show in Mexico City in 2014. Since then she has created a world of mixed colours and materials, with a predominance of graphics from her previous life as a space designer.
Living together' is a fundamental question that I hope transpires from my portraits; I like to mix features from different ethnic origins to give them a taste of universality... the other relationship to the universal lies in the existential and original questioning that has shaped me since my early research and even more so today.
The advent of the spiritual as a world of possibilities, close to dreams, where there is nothing but freedom and fulfilment...
My characters sometimes still seem to be halfway between the vexations of reality and a realm of inner serenity. In these paintings I'd like to emphasise "the right to doubt; the choice of happiness", as if we could escape from the prevailing Manichaeism to experience the nuances of the colours of our lives.
My work combines portraiture, graphic design and handicrafts, with paintings, illustrations and fabric sculptures. In my work, bright, vibrant colours cover existential questions to get us out of the turmoil of doubt. A world away, on an immobile, inner journey, to return to our realities with emotion and touch as holiday memories.
