Udo Rein was born in Heidelberg and currently lives in Munich. He is characterised by his special technique of collage on wooden panels. This year he is exhibiting for the 9th time in Saint-Tropez.
Udo Rein was born in 1960 in Heidelberg and currently lives in Munich, Germany. He began his career as an artist in the United States, and feels particularly connected to the style of Robert Rauschenberg, Ray Johnson, Richard Hamilton and Mimmo Rotella in his work with photography and collage. His technique in its particular treatment in the form of collage on wooden panels is his trademark. It is an individual mode of expression that has been shaped by the experience of pop and street art, artistic trends that have had a strong influence on Udo Rein's artistic career. In many parts of the world, he documents social and cultural contrasts with films. These recordings form the basic material for further artistic processing.
This year he is exhibiting for the 9th time in Saint-Tropez.
One of his most important exhibitions took place in 2022 with CREA Cantierie delle Contemporanea on the occasion of the 59th Venice Biennale with curators Elmar Zorn and Pier Paulo Scelsi. His works are included in the collections of the renowned institutions ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst und Medien) in Karlsruhe, Germany, and the MART Museum in Rovereto, Italy.
In June 2021, Udo Rein published an art book in German and English with Hirmer Verlag under ISBN: 978-3-7774-3797-2 with contributions by Christine Buci-Glucksmann, Christian Jacobs, Robert Levy, Elmar Zorn.
