The festival of the first-fruits of rice takes place in September during the harvest and celebrates the work of Camargue rice growers.
Rice is more than just a cereal; it has shaped the Camargue territory by making the land fertile. Growing rice is essential to the Camargue. The supply of fresh water from the Rhône helps maintain the ecological balance between salt-rich environments and the soft soils necessary for the diversity of flora and fauna.

The ambassador is the daughter of rice growers. Appointed for two years, she represents Camargue rice-growing.

Corsos:
Throughout the year, neighborhoods, villages, associations and families prepare their floats with enthusiasm for the corsos, a parade rich in color, but also faithful to the traditions of the Arles region to which all are strongly attached.

Celebrate rice in Arles!

The festivities begin with the arrival of the ambassador on board a Latin-sailed boat on the Quai Saint-Pierre. Escorted by the gardians, she rides on horseback to the church of Saint-Pierre for the blessing of the sheaf of new rice she brings.

Follow the first night parade of floats, with music, from the Trinquetaille district to the boulevard Victor-Hugo via the boulevard des Lices.

Enjoy a second parade, at the end of which the winning float is announced.

The following Saturday, the rice ambassador takes to the Camargue. Join her at Le Sambuc for a day of festivities.
